Day Before Thanksgiving

Have you ever noticed that no matter how much work you put into the holidays that it never goes the way you expect? Today is no exception, and I haven't even gotten to Thanksgiving day yet. My brother called me early this morning to tell me that he and his family will not be coming down for Thanksgiving because he and his wife were sick. This was a bummer for many because David hasn't seen his siblings since he was last in the states in 2003 between their Bahrain and Italy moves, before Tom and I got married. He lived with Mom and Dad for about three weeks in October, but we were all looking forward to having all four of us kids together for the first time in 14 years! Roxanne had also volunteered to their son, Chance, to the zoo today, so she was disappointed. She also had many books and activities she wanted to "try" on him as an ELL (English Language Learner). Plus as the hostess of the day, I was looking forward to having everyone here. So much for that.

I had cleaned and cleaned, taking care in every room. But in the end, we spent the most time in the living room, watching my one year old nephew crawl around on the floor and attempt to walk (but mostly pull himself up, take a few guided steps and then fall down again.) I went from having five people staying at my house to having only two, from staying for Wed-Saturday to Wed-Thursday. I suspect everything will work out for the best, but it is still a pretty weird feeling to not know what is going to happen next, like waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Now I have to get to bed because I will have to get up early and get the pies made, since that didn't happen tonight either...
